Domain Name Cancellation

  Hi,

  I just cancelled this domain name registration with WordPress because I want to host it using another site. When searching to see if the domain name is available, it is still appearing as being used. Is there a wait period between when the domain name will appear as available?

  Hello –

  Please verify the URL of the domain that you need help with.

  When you cancelled the domain it then becomes unavailable until it works through the cancellation process. This can take up to a few weeks.

  My suggestion is that we reach out to our domain partner to ask that the domain be restored. This way, we guarantee that you do not lose ownership of the domain.

  Once the domain is restored to your account you can edit the name servers of the domain to point the domain to your new site. This will tell the internet to load the new version of the site and not the WordPress.com version.

  Then, after the domain is 60 days old, you can make an actual domain transfer.
