Domain name cancellation process

Hello, I canceled my WordPress subscription, which included my domain. However, I’d still like to use that domain with another host.

Is it better for me to undo the cancellation and try to recover the domain here and then point the nameservers to my new site and/or transfer it after 60 days?
    OR
Should I cancel permanently and wait for WordPress to release the domain? If I cancel permanently, how long would it normally take for a domain to be released?

I’m not too worried about someone taking my domain, but I’d like to know how long the process might take if I cancel. Thanks so much in advance for the help!

Yes. Domain cancellations are a tricky thing and there is a risk you could lose the domain if someone else purchases the domain before you could after it’s been released.

If you want to recover the domain, we’d need you to pay the domain registration fee of $18. Since you cancelled your plan, the domain is no longer free. It’s only free if you have the plan in place for the full year.

Otherwise, it should be released back into the open domain market in around 5 days or so. There’s no way to know or be notified when it would be released, so you would need to keep checking daily to see if it’s available to be purchased.

Let us know how you’d like to proceed.

Thank you so much for your help! It’s much appreciated. Ok, I think I will cancel permanently and wait for the domain to be released back into the market in a few days.

    Thanks again for your help.
