Domain Name- cancelled

  I canceled my domain name within the 48 hour period, I’ve been issued a refund. They domain name still isn’t available as it’s showing it’s still taken. How long does it generally take for you to release back into the public domain for grabs. Is there any way I could just transfer it or is it too late. Sorry I am new to all this website stuff.
