Hi there!
Did you canceled a custom domain? Something like <site name>.com?
If yes you can buy it again. If you’ve canceled a WordPress.com site you’ll not be able to get it back right now, sometimes a WordPress.com address can be off by up to 2 years.
Let me know if you need more help.
Regards.

Hi Daniel, Thanks for your response it was a custom domain http://www.xyz.com rather than http://www.abc.wordpress.com Any idea when I will be able to buy it again? How long does it take to free up? Regards and thank you!

Hi Daniel, I bought it through wordpress.com 2 days ago, cancelled today and would like to buy it elsewhere due to platform I will be using. It does not see to be anywhere – Wild West that sells to wordpress say it is owned by wordpress and leased to me. How do I get it back – any idea? Wild West say it is held with wordpress until 2017

Thank you Daniel – was thinking that if its still there then technically I am still leasing it, so how can I access it? Secondly, could I then continue accessing via wordpress and use on my own platform? Who I lease my domain name is not really relevant – its how I can use it. Thank you for your help #modlook

Hey there,
If you’re wanting to transfer your domain, you should never cancel it at your current host because once you decide to cancel your domain, there is no guarantee that you will be able to reacquire it in the future. Someone else could gain access to it. Also, it usually takes a few weeks for your domain registration to clear and become available once you cancel it. There isn’t an exact time, however, so you’ll be checking consistently to see when it becomes available.
If you want to keep using your domain but you don’t want to use WordPress.com anymore, you don’t have to cancel it. Instead, you can move the domain to another site
https://en.support.wordpress.com/transfer-domain-registration/
For more information on using the domain elsewhere, please see:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/move-domain/
I’ll be happy to contact the registrar to see if we can restore the domain back to your account, but I cannot guarantee that we will be able to get the domain back.
Let me know if you would like for me to try and regain the domain for you.
Thanks!

Hey Darnell, Thank you very much for sorting that out. Another question how do I go about using the domain elsewhere? Regards, Andrea

Hi there,
You have several options on moving your domain elsewhere. You can transfer the domain completely, or leave the domain with WordPress.com and point it to your new host. Our support page provides instructions on each option:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/move-domain/
If you want to transfer your domain, you’ll need to keep the domain registered with us for at least 60 days. In the meantime, you can change the nameservers of the domain to use it with a site hosted elsewhere.
Please let me know if you have any questions regarding transferring your domain.
Thanks!
