domain name change

i have two existing word press sites. i want the domain name from one site to be for the other site. when i attempt to change the name for the site that has the domain that i want, it tells me it will be discarded and i wont be able to use it again. I’m okay with that as long as that means that domain name is opened up for me to use it on my other site. is that the case?

Do not delete the URL!
Deleted blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them, and the only exceptions made are for deletions made 2 or more years ago is stated here http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/
Blog deletion is meant to be a permanent and irreversible act. Deleting a site requires ignoring several warnings that the URL cannot be registered again by you or anyone else, followed by an email with a site deletion link in it and the final warning regrading using it. https://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/

You can export https://en.support.wordpress.com/export/ and import content https://en.support.wordpress.com/import/ from one wordpress.COM hosted site into the other.
