domain name change

Add topic to favorites
I tried to change my domain name to a different .wordpress.com name but when I put the new name in it said it was already reserved. When I did a search, no one has that name. Not sure what to do? Thanks

When a domain name is shown as reserved, It means that someone has created an account to comment or something else, but have not created a blog yet.

You can contact staff to see if they can do anything about this. But there no promises made.

Someone already has a blog with https://thepathtomyheart.wordpress.com/.

So I am sorry, if you are not the owner/admin of this site you cannot register this address.

The odd thing is that when I put in http://www.thepathtomyheart.wordpress.com – all I get is “Welcome to your new home on WordPress.com”and “create a website or blog at wordpress”
I think all I can do now is to upgrade. Thanks again for all your help!!

@myawakeningheart open the site in incognito/private mode of your browser, you can see that it is already live.

Hi there,

As @optidusprime has confirmed already, the site https://thepathtomyheart.wordpress.com/ already exists and belongs to someone else. There is no way that you can use that address, as any WordPress.com address can only belong to one person.

The only way you would be able to use that address is if the current owner transferred it to you. You can try leaving a comment on that site to ask the current owner if they’d be willing to do this.

I think all I can do now is to upgrade

Upgrading won’t allow you to use that address, but it will let you register a custom domain, like thepathtomyheart.com (provided that domain is available).

Thank you kokkieh for your response. Yes, I realize I will need to upgrade so the “wordpress” isn’t in the address. I believe the domain address I need is available.

I went ahead and upgraded and got the address I wanted!
It was quite easy and that address was added to my blog immediately!
Thanks again, and if I do have any other questions, I’ll let you know. So far the support has been wonderful!
