Domain Name Change & Delete Original Site
-
Originally, my blog name was christinaawritess.wordpress.com and I changed it to acupofpositivity.wordpress.com.
I thought I had lost everything and eventually it all showed up on the new site name.
In my WP Dashboard, it now has the two websites.
Is there a way for me to delete the christinaawritess website without losing the content on the cup of positivity website? Are the files stored in one or the other?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Click on My Sites, and click Switch Site at the top. Select the site you want to delete. Then click on Settings and select the delete option at the bottom of the page.
You will need to go through a few verification steps, including typing in the URL of the site you’re trying to delete, so there’s very little chance of deleting the wrong site by mistake.
As an alternative to deleting you can also just set the other site to private. It won’t be online for others to see, but you’ll still own the address if you want it back later and you can use it as a test site in the meantime. But if you delete it, that address will be gone and you won’t be able to use it again in future.

If I ever did want to switch it back to the original site, how do I go about doing that? Am I okay to just change the domain name in the WP Admin settings?
It took some time for it to show up after I did that and I thought I had lost the site. Does it take a while to transfer across domains?

If you want to switch back to the original site, provided you didn’t delete it, you’ll need to manually export the content from the new site and back to the old, and you’ll need to contact us to move your subscribers back.
It’s only possible to change the address to one that doesn’t yet exist. If an address already exists, you need to move the content manually, and it’s not possible at all to change to or import to an address that has been deleted.
Changing a site address should happen instantly, as it’s not actually your content being moved, but being directly assigned to a new address in our system. If there was a delay we’d have needed to look at the site in that moment to determine what’s going on, but there’s no way to check if something wasn’t working now that the change is completed.

Is there a way to move subscribers back that doesn’t cost money? As well as traffic? Because right it says to move the traffic there is a cost associated with it.
If I delete the original, can I change the name of the current blog back to that deleted name? Or does me deleting it prevent me from ever using that domain again?
-
I can move your subscribers back for you, yes. We don’t charge a fee to do that. Just let me know from which address, and to which address you want them moved.
To redirect traffic from one site to another you need a site redirect upgrade at $13 a year. But that is only really necessary if you get a lot of traffic via direct links, or if links to the address you’re moving away from has been shared a lot of times.
Given that you’ve already changed the address, the case could be made for adding a site redirect from your old address to the new one, but that’s something you need to decide if you want it or if it doesn’t matter that much to you.
If I delete the original, can I change the name of the current blog back to that deleted name? Or does me deleting it prevent me from ever using that domain again?
Deleted addresses don’t instantly become available for re-use. In some cases we can recycle them in about two years, but it’s safer to assume once you delete it, it’s gone forever. So the only way to undo a site address change is to manually move everything back to the old address, as I explained above.

I want my them moved from acupofpositivity.wordpress.com to christinaawritess.wordpress.com
Sorry for all the questions. Thanks so much for your patience.
I’ve decided moving traffic is not what I want to do, but I’m assuming there’s no way to move the statistics, likes, and views?
-
I can move the stats for you as well.
I just want to double-check, as I see you have one post more on acupofpositivity.wordpress.com than on christinaawritess.wordpress.com. You are saying that you want everything to be back on christinaawritess.wordpress.com as it were before you changed the address, correct? You’ll then just need to move that one new post as well.
-
Oh perfect let’s do that then too.
I know the posts are different with one more.
Correct I want everything back on christinaawritess.wordpress.com
Can I delete acupofpositivity once the switch is done with out losing all the info on christinaawritess?
-
Okay, all your stats and followers are back on christinaawritess.wordpress.com
You can delete the other site now under My Site ->Settings (make sure you select the correct site) or you can just set the site to private if you want to hold onto the address. You can use the private site as a test site to try out new themes, or you can just let it lie in your account if you prefer.

Thank you so much for all your help! One last question before we close this.
Do likes not transfer since the url’a are different? Everything else is back and looks great.
-
Post likes are not included in export files and we have no way to manually transfer them, so there is no way to get them back to the original site, unfortunately.
