    I hired a freelancer to build me a website and they instructed me to purchase the domain and web hosting. I liked wordpress.com’s prices and services so I purchased, but the website he built couldn’t be used with wordpress so he instructed me to cancel it. Doing so has put my domain in purgatory as I can’t purchase it back on the website he instructed me to or back on wordpress. I know deleting domains can be a hassle, but I’m in a tough situation as I don’t understand how everything works and I was given bad advice. I’d just like to restore my domain and move on if anyone can please guide me in the best direction.

    Hi there!

    It looks like you canceled your domain https://ascendingacquisitions.com. There are a few ways you can get it back:

    1. Wait. The domain is released into the market about after 7 days if it was canceled within the refund period. You can then register the domain at another registrar. However, note that this method is risky as anyone can register the domain before you have a chance to do it.

    2. Repurchase the domain. We can send a payment request to you via email. Once you’ve paid the domain registration fee, we’ll restore the domain for you.

    3. Upgrade to an annual paid plan. If you want to use the domain with your WordPress.com site, a paid plan is required. If you upgrade to a yearly paid plan, we can restore the domain at no extra cost for you. That’s because our yearly plans include domain registration for the first year.

    From the second year onwards, the domain and the paid plan will be billed separately. And if you choose a monthly plan, the domain registration fee must also be paid right now.

    We have a short window to restore the domain. So please let us know as soon as possible how you’d like to proceed and we’ll help with the next steps. It sounds like you may want to use the domain with an external site so you can choose from either option 1 or 2.

    Is there a way I can re-purchase my domain and immediately host it on another website? Or do I have to wait 60 days? Also is there a way I can chat with someone to figure out why the website built isn’t working properly with wordpress.com.

    Hey there,

    You will not be able to move the domain until the 60 days is up if we restored it for you here. However, if you wanted to use the domain elsewhere, what you could do is repurchase it here and point the domain over to your host from WordPress.com until 60 days of registration hits (where you can transfer the domain anywhere you please).

    Likely your designer created a custom theme and is using plugins and would need FTP access to upload it. In order to use that site on WordPress.com, you would need to upgrade to the Business plan – that will allow you to use the site designed for you. https://wordpress.com/pricing/
