Domain name deletion – possible recovery ? what is the delay ?
-
Good evening,
I took over the management of a wordpress site as the head of a Master’s degree at the University.
The name of the Master having changed, the former manager created a new wordpress site, but he could simply change the domain name (because an important part of the content could be retrieved).
So I deleted the new account and renamed the old one but obviously the name is no longer available…how long does it take for the name to be available again? (all communication documents include this name so I would like to avoid changing it!).
Thank you in advance for your precious help!
The previous site named masterecce.wordpress.com, i renamed it mastervarapup8 – in the meantime – ; the site i deleted (the name i wish so is mastervarap.wordpress.com)The address of the blog concerned is mastervarapup8.wordpress.com.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

mastervarap.wordpress.com is no longer available.
The authors have deleted this site.Deleted addresses don’t become available again. If it was deleted less than 30 days ago staff may be able to restore that address. I see this thread has already been tagged for staff assistance.

Thank you themagicrobot,
I deleted the site today so i guess (and i really hope) it’s possible !!! -
We’ll be able to recover https://mastervarap.wordpress.com/ over the next few weeks, but we will need to receive the request from the WordPress.com account which owned the site, which is not the account you’re currently logged in as.
With that said, that particular account is also deleted, so they’ll first need to reply to the account deletion email, and we’ll help them recover the account.

This is very good news, but I don’t understand what exactly I should do, thank you for your clarification.
The person who had opened this account must, with the particular email associated with the deleted site, reply to the deletion email specifying that he wishes to recover the domain name for an existing wordpress site?
Thank you for all -
Whoever deleted the site (you say you did?) also deleted the account the site was associated with. That account needs to be recovered first (via the email confirmation of deletion they/you would have received). Then using that account they/you can request the deleted site address be restored to that account. If then the address needs associating with a different account that can be done by transferring ownership and then export/import content if required.

Thank you themagicraobot !
I deleted the site but I didn’t delete the account the site was associated with. Duly noted. I’ll already take care of that. Then, I want to keep the initial site and modify its name using the name of the deleted site (so it is not a question of restoring the deleted site but of being able to modify the name of the existing site using the name of the deleted site).
Is it possible? What steps should I take?
Thank you again and sorry, I try to explain it as simply as possible but it is not obvious! -
Hello,
I’m sorry to come back to the charge but all is not clear (I’m starting!)I want to keep the initial site and modify its name using the name of the deleted site (so it is not a question of restoring the deleted site but of being able to modify the name of the existing site using the name of the deleted site).
Is it possible? What steps should I take?

Hi there,
The only way to be able to use that address on your @masterecce account is to reply to the account closure email we have sent to the @mastervarap account.
Once both the account and the site are restored you’ll be able to transfer the site to your other account.

You bet. Sorry we missed your followup questions earlier.
1) Respond to the account deleted email, to restore the account. You may also be able to ask to have the site restored at the same time, but I’m not sure.
2) Once it’s restored, log in as that user.
3) If needed, request to have the site restored
And then let us know if you need more help from there.

Hello,
It turns out that the associated account has been deactivated and I have no way to reactivate it… I’m a bit desperate but we’ll deal with it!
Thank you all very much for your help and your answers. -
You can recover the deleted account by sending a reply to the account deletion confirmation email.
