Domain name different from registration

I submitted organised-chaos.com as domain name when setting up blog, and followed links. I must have mistunderstood what was going on, and now it appears my site is called organisedchaosdotcom.wordpress.com – what the! Trying to now change it back to organised-chaos.com and saying domain is already taken. Has someone else beaten me to it, or have I somehow got it, but mucked things up. First time using wordpress, have used blogspot in past.

When you setup a blog at WordPress.com, we automatically create a default WordPress.com address for you in the form of sitename.wordpress.com. In your case, the blog address was setup as organisedchaosdotcom.wordpress.com.
It sounds like you’re also looking to setup a custom domain, which would replace your default WordPress.com URL. You can do that following the instructions here:
It looks like organised-chaos.com is indeed registered:
http://www.who.is/whois/organised-chaos.com
It looks like it was registered back on December of 2001. However, organised-chaos.co is available. Would that work?

Thanks so much for clearing that up for me. Ive gone back to the beginning and secured the .net domain. Cheers.
