Domain name discrepancy
-
I paid for a domain name on Dec 21, 2021. I paid using my credit card which expires in May 2022. However, the subscription was until Dec 21, 2022. There was an error notification on my account stating the same, and that I should change/update my credit card. I did that, but with that, my domain name got renewed for another year which is until Dec 2023. That is not what I wanted, I wanted WordPress to approve of my payment and my domain name for a year, hence I updated my credit card details. I canceled my request and asked for a refund, with that, WordPress took away my domain name. I meant to cancel the additional one year renewal until Dec 2023.

Hi there!
Sounds like a bit of confusion there.
I can see that the original domain arnoldiswrite.ca was canceled, but you have registered a new one – arnoldiswrite.com. Would you rather keep that new one and have us refund the cost of the domain? Or would you like us to restore arnoldiswrite.ca so you can cancel the new one? We’re still on time to do both, so let us know what you prefer.

Hello,
Thank you for your swift response. If I could get the domain name arnoldiswrite.ca, I would like that.
I didnt mean to cancel that domain name, I only wanted to cancel the additional one year renewal up to Dec 2023, that I ended up doing yesterday. Since I cancelled it completely, I had to create a new one.
I made a new account via Bluehost as well, last night. Not sure how that affects things.
To answer your question, I would like to keep the domain name arnoldiswrite.ca. Would I still get to see the two posts I have up there?

Hi there,
I was able to restore arnoldiswrite.ca with renewal up to December 2023, so you can go ahead and cancel the new domain if you no longer want that one. You can go here to set arnoldiswrite.ca as the primary domain for the site.
I made a new account via Bluehost as well, last night. Not sure how that affects things.
It doesn’t affect anything. Were you planning on using arnoldiswrite.ca with your site hosted on Bluehost?
To answer your question, I would like to keep the domain name arnoldiswrite.ca. Would I still get to see the two posts I have up there?
Yep, the two posts are still up on the site, so you’re good to go!
Let us know if you have any other questions.
Thanks!

Hello,
Thank you for sorting this out for me. i tried clicking on arnoldiswrite.ca, and it says ‘coming Soon’ with a blue background
Do you know why is it like this? Also, would you happen to know why the URL has ‘wordpress.com’ in it and not ‘.ca’?
About cancelling my new domain, it doesnt show in my purchases. is it because I paid via the Bluehost website? My account shows on WordPress still.
Secondly, I am open to using arnoldiswrite.ca either on WordPress, or Bluehost, doesnt really matter that much to me.
I apologize for all the questions, I truly want this sorted out at the earliest :)

This is because your site isn’t launched yet, and the
arnoldmascarenhas2f65d3bb4faccount you posted with here most recently isn’t a user on that site.Log back in as
arnoldmascarenhas, and then go to Settings ->General. Click the button there to launch the site, and it will become visible to anyone who has the link. Also, would you happen to know why the URL has ‘wordpress.com’ in it and not ‘.ca’?
That’s because the WordPress.com address is still the primary address for your site, so any domains you add will redirect to it.
To make your .ca domain primary you’ll need to upgrade your site to one of our paid plans:
https://wordpress.com/support/why-am-i-still-seeing-wordpress-com-in-my-domain/
About cancelling my new domain, it doesnt show in my purchases.
That’s because you’re currently logged into the wrong account. If you log in as
arnoldmascarenhas, you’ll see it listed.Secondly, I am open to using arnoldiswrite.ca either on WordPress, or Bluehost, doesnt really matter that much to me.
It’s really up to what you prefer.
If you’re already paying Bluehost for hosting, and you’ve started building a site with them using the open source version of WordPress, it makes sense to point your domain to them. In that case you don’t need to buy a plan from us as well. You’ll need to ask Bluehost support for the name servers for your domain, and then add those on our end to point the domain there:
https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/change-name-servers/
Or if you want to host here, cancel your hosting plan with Bluehost, and buy a paid plan on our end instead so you can set your domain as the primary domain on your site.
It might help you decide to look at this comparison between the version of WordPress you’ll be using at Bluehost, and the version we offer here on WordPress.com:

Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to respond to all my queries.
– I logged back in to ‘arnoldmascarenhas’, and I see the earlier domain name ‘arnoldiswrote.ca’, thank you. I intend to keep that going forward. There is a message ‘ Credit card expires before your next renewal on November, 2023 ‘. Does this need my attention/action at the moment?
– Understood about upgrading my plan to make ‘arnoldiswrite.ca’ my primary address.
– I am still debating whether I should buy and upgrade here, or on Bluehost. I did add a bit of personal info on there, however, I can transfer them here too. Thats an issue for me to resolve.
– I see my new purchase ‘arnoldiswrite.com’, now that I have logged in from ‘arnoldmascarenhas’
Thank you for the detailed response, and restoring my domain name. I just need clarification about my credit card expiry. I am good with the rest.

Hi there,
Does this need my attention/action at the moment?
No, but when you get your new card with the updated expiration date, be sure to update it then. We’ll send reminders to the address on file.
If you decide to import the stuff you put up at Bluehost, we do have a tool for that. The content import would work just fine:
https://transferto.wordpress.com/self-hosted-wordpress-org/Also, I did want to add — if you want move the domains to a single account and get rid of the other, you can. It’s a bit of a process, so I wouldn’t worry about it til you decide for sure where you want to host, but we’d be happy to help when you’re ready. And if you need tips for getting started, or just want to see more of what’s available, we have a free webinar (or recordings) here:
