    Hi there!

I’m not sure why you were told you needed to use WordPress.org to “properly host” the website. There are some differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org sites, and some people may find WordPress.org better for their particular needs, but that doesn’t mean WordPress.com isn’t a “proper host.” Millions of people host their sites with us, as our plans have the features they need to succeed.

You can check out this page for a full comparison, but generally speaking, you will be responsible for your site’s software updates, security, and to some extent, performance, when you host your site using WordPress.org.

On WordPress.com, we take care of security, regular updates, backups, and more. We also have world-class performance with data centers all around the globe. What’s more, we have unlimited bandwidth for sites on all plans, meaning even if your site suddenly got a million viewers a day, it’ll still be up and running without a hitch.

This means you can focus on creating content, not so much on updating software or thinking about security.

You already host your site with us, so I don’t see any reason to migrate. Your site is currently on the free plan, which comes with a limited set of features. To add more features, such as a custom domain, you will want to upgrade your site to a WordPress.com plan that best fits your needs.

I’ve looked at it, but I’d still love to hear from you about your site. Can you tell us the overall goal of your site? Are there any specific features you need? Once we know more about your site goals, we can suggest a plan for you that has everything you need.

You can register a domain and set it as the primary address on your WordPress.com site after upgrading to any of our paid plans. You can check out our plans and pricing here, but
