Howdy –
newmooncafekeystone.com expired back on December 5th 2016 and is now in redemption.
Our domain partner charges a $80 recovery fee for domains in redemption. Because this is their fee, we are unable to waive it.
I need to verify that you agree to the fee before I start the recovery process.

Hello,
Thanks for the response. A few questions for you. How could this domain have expired on Dec 5th, when on January 5th, 2016 we purchased the domain redemption for a year, $80 receipt id 15170419, and at the same time purchased the domain name registration $5, for newmooncafekeystone.com (recurring) and domain mapping, $13 (recurring) for newmooncafekeystone.com with receipt id 15170420.Yes, we will agree to the $80 fee, but please explain to me how it expired 11 months after purchase and how the recurring registration was invalidated although we paid for it. I would like to get this matter resolved asap.
Thanks for the help.

Hello again,
I have updated the CC on file and approve of the $80 + $5 + $13 fees for domain redemption, domain mapping and domain registration in order to get the site up asap.I would though like an explanation of why the recurring domain registration did not occur and how our domain expired resulting in the $80 fee. If this was an error and the domain should have renewed automatically as shown on my receipt, please let me know how to correct that charge and situation.
Thank you for the help!

Hi there –
The domain expires from when it was originally registered, not necessarily from the last renewal date. In this case, the domain was originally registered on 12/05/2011.
When a domain expires we hold on to it for roughly 45 days, buying some extra time for the renewal to be made. After that time, the domain kicks back to our domain partner.
Our domain partner charges the $80 fee for domain redemption. This fee does not come from WordPress.com.
Does that help clarify the process? I’m happy to answer any other follow up questions.
I have sent a note to our domain partner asking for the domain to be redeemed. Typically we will hear back from them within 48 hours. Once I have an update I will be back in touch.
You should also have an email from me including a payment link. It is going to be delivered to the address listed at wordpress.com/me/ This is the same email address that all of the expiration notifications are being sent to. If appropriate, please update that email address.

Ok, yea that all makes sense. I will get that payment made asap. I also updated the email address on file for future purposes.
Can you shed any light on why we paid the domain redemption and registration after this happened last year, and set it to recurring registration every year, and why the registration didn’t renew? It seems that this shouldn’t have had happened if the domain renewed properly.
Thanks for the help!

Paid the fee. Please let me know the next steps and any insight into why the recurring billing setting didn’t work out.
Thanks for the help!

Upgrades are automatically set up with auto renewal to try and prevent such situations. The card on the account may have been invalid or expired. Once we hear back from our domain partner and we get everything set back up I will double check that the upgrades are set to auto renew for you.

I have already sent a request to our domain partner about the redemption (yesterday 8:19 pm) and I should hear back from them within 48 hours.
