Domain name expiry
-
Help! My .com site has suddenly vanished which I think is due to an accidental domain name expiry (the auto-renew was linked to an old/defunct email address). As a result my linked gmail account is also frozen. A major lesson learned for me in updating everything.
However, now I need to find out how to renew my domain name (which I’ve had for 10yrs) and restore my blog and associated email. I need advice please on how to do this and the various stages. This happened last week and I’ve been going in circles. The hosting platform (BlueHost) sent me to GoDaddy who eventually said it’s a WP issue. Thank you.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I discovered my domain name has accidentally expired (on 24th Jan) and I need to recover it. I have renewal purchase receipts in my WP account history up until last year but didn’t receive a renewal/expiry warning or option because I lost access to my email account for a while. I only realised when my site went down a few days ago. The option to renew/recover it is not given to me now – it says instead to reach out to support (here! :-)) I need help with the steps to take to get it back and get my site back online. Thanks very much for any help.

Hi there,
I do not see any upgrades under your WordPress.com account when I check on our end. You can confirm by visiting this page: https://wordpress.com/me/purchases/
Is it possible you made your purchase under a different login?
I can confirm that katescreativespace.com is registered at WordPress.com but is under a different account and not your @katescreativespace login. If you do not recall how to log in to your other account you can fill out the form here to get assistance from our Account Recovery team: https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery
On that form you will be asked to provide a transaction ID for your purchase, which you can typically find on your credit card statement. More info on how to find that here: https://wordpress.com/support/billing-history/#retrieving-a-transaction-id
Once you are connected to the correct account we are happy to help you with managing your account. Thanks!

Hi, thank you for picking this up – the transaction IDs for the domain purchase are shown in the Billing tab (not the Active Upgrades one); can you see them there? They’re visible to me when I am in the account/using the link you pasted above. In the Upgrades tab there’s just the Elemin purchase shown, but the recurring domain purchase receipts are shown under Billing. What I can’t see is how to redeem/renew the .com domain now that it has expired. Thank you.

Because the domain has expired you will need the help of staff to recover the domain. As I mentioned above, this domain is not registered to @katescreativespace (the account you are communicating to us through) so we can’t help with that because we need to hear from the domain owner directly.
It sounds like you have access to your other account, so perhaps you can sign in under that account (and not use this one) for your next reply? If we hear from you under the correct account (the one that is showing the upgrades) then we are able to help.
But so long as you are replying as @katescreativespace our hands are tied.
Thanks!

I’m really confused now! This is my billing history in the @katescreativespace account (the only one I have). Screenshot attached. I am guessing I am showing as not the domain owner because it has expired?

Hey there,
Many thanks for reaching out.
I think there’s some confusion that’s happened here, and we are able to redeem the domain via this account.
As the domain is in the redemption period, there is an $80 redemption fee to settle along with the domain registration fee $13. Would you like to proceed with redeeming the domain? Once confirmed, we can get the ball rolling on that.
Also, to note, in order to have a custom primary domain set on the site, there would need to be a paid plan on the site. Would you be willing to tell me more about what features you need – perhaps I can offer some guidance on what to choose.
Many thanks in advance.

I would like to retain the domain yes please, so can we get the ball rolling on that – and yes welcome your suggestions re other next / necessary steps. Thank you

Hi there,
I am happy to help you restore your expired domain
katescreativespace.com. We need to collect that first, so please check your inbox for the invoice we just sent, which will include a link to pay for the renewal of katescreativespace.com for 1 year, as well as the late renewal fee ($80).If you do not see it in your inbox, please search for the subject “Payment request from Automattic Inc.” and be sure to check any spam folders. Also, be sure you are not blocking emails from our donotreply address donotreply[at]wordpress[dot]com. If you are not sure which inbox to check, we send all email to the address you entered under your profile here: https://wordpress.com/me/account/
After you make payment our domains team will start the process or restoring your domain, but you are also welcome to update us here in the event that we see your reply first.

Hi, thank you – no link/email to pay has come through to my inbox (after 45mins), and I’ve checked all my folders and done the search you suggest. The email address on my Account is definitely the right one (and where I’m receiving notifications about this thread). Is it possible that WP has another email address on file it is sending invoices to (which could be why I didn’t get the renewal link)? How might I check this?
-
Hi there,
To clarify, we are sending to the address you have listed under your account here: https://wordpress.com/me/account/
If that is an old email address you no longer have access to please update it, and then let us know when your account is set to the updated address. From there we are happy to re-send.
Change Your Email Address
Thanks!

Hi, yes – that is the right email address, and the only one listed in my account settings. It’s also where I am receiving push notifications of these thread replies. But no invoice has been sent. Can you resend please, and is there any other way we can try? Can a link be placed somewhere? I’m not sure why it’s not coming through. Thank you.
-
Hey there!
Ok, I’ve just resent that for you – are you able to confirm if this has been received?
We’re not able to post this publicly as this is a link unique to this account.
If it’s not received, rest assured we can find another method.
Many thanks!
