Domain Name for Personal Account

I’m trying to start a personal account, which includes a custom domain name. But when I go through the steps, every time I get to the domain name section, it won’t allow me to create a custom domain name and tries to force me to upgrade to premium. How do I get a custom domain name for my personal account?

Note to say that I’m wanting to start a new website using the personal plan, not upgrade my free blog as stated above.

What is the domain URL that you want to register?
What is the exact URL starting with http:// of the wordpress.COM hosted site you want to domain map from to the domain URL?
And, exactly which wordpress.COM username account registered that the wordpress.COM hosted site?

Hi there,
If you want to use the Personal Plan, please select a free address only at the domains step, and then add the Personal Plan when you get to the plans step.
After you’ve created the site and added the plan, then go to My Site ->Domains and add the domain. You won’t need to pay for the domain separately, as it’s included in the plan.
