Domain Name from Blogger to WordPress

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi all,

I created my initial website & domain on blogger but would now like to use the wordpress platform. However, whenever I go to the site it still looks like the blogger site and not my wordpress format. I have tried to remap the domain to no avail.

Any tips and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    What is the domain URL?

What is the URL of the .wordpress.com blog that you want to map from to the domain?

Have you created an export XML file of your blogspot.com content https://support.google.com/blogger/answer/41387?hl=en and imported your content into the .wordpress.com blog yet?

    re: mapping an existing domain
WordPress.com does not accept domain transfers but mapping an existing domain is possible.

Domain mapping of an existing domain URL that you already own and purchased elsewhere is not done free of charge. You will have to renew the domain name purchase where you made, it and the domain mapping purchase here, each and every year.

Mapping an existing domain costs $13. annually and a domain name purchase and domain mapping are included in the Premium upgrade bundle.

In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com sub-domain blog to map from and it does not matter what that underlying .wordpress.com URL is. It does not have to match the domain URL.

If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the WordPress.COM blog, and as you own a domain URL already, you can see here for mapping an existing domain. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

It can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

  • Hi @annievaughan12, your domain still points to Blogger.

Can you update the nameservers to point it here? You’d want to use these settings:

    ns1.wordpress.com
    ns2.wordpress.com
    ns3.wordpress.com

I’ve made thelittlereviewsdotcom.wordpress.com the primary domain in the meantime. Once you’ve updated your other domain, you can make it primary here:

    https://wordpress.com/my-domains

    Cheers!

    Hi Timetheif and Supernovia,

Thank you so much for your help! I really appreciate it.

If you can’t already tell I am new to blogging and the various platforms.

Supernovia, would you mind walking me through your advice a bit more? When I go to my blogger domain settings, I do not see where I can adjust the settings to your recommendations. Any thoughts?

    Thank you!

  • Glad we could help! I am having trouble finding a tutorial for how to change your name servers on a domain registered with Blogger.

Can you log into your account there, look for an option to manage your domain, and then try to find something about name servers? Alternatively, can you ask them for help? I don’t have an account with them or any screenshots for me to help guide you through.

Once you find the place to update your nameservers, though, you will need these settings:

    ns1.wordpress.com

    ns2.wordpress.com

    ns3.wordpress.com

And after you’ve saved those settings, let us know here. It won’t start working for a few hours, but we can check it from our end.
