Domain name from Godaddy not updating on WordPress.com

  • Unknown's avatar

I have a blog that’s default address is: http://hopkinscorner.wordpress.com. I recently purchased the domain name ‘FirstTakeSports.com’ from Godaddy. I paid wordpress $13.00 to map this domain name to my blog. I have set this domain name as my primary domain in wordpress.com. I changed the Nameservers as required on the Godaddy End, and according to them all is good on their end.

It has been more than 24 hours and I have yet to see any changes whatsover, I am getting a ‘page isn’t redirecting properly’ and believe something is wrong.

Please I need this domain attached and pointing to my WordPress Blog.

    Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Wes.

The DNS records that I’m seeing for your domain are incorrect at the moment. They’re currently set as follows:

    A firsttakesports.com..FirstTakeSports.com handled by WordPress.com
    NS firsttakesports.com..FirstTakeSports.com handled by WordPress.com

In order to correctly point to WordPress.com, you domain’s DNS records need to be:

    A firsttakesports.com handled by WordPress.com
    NS firsttakesports.com handled by WordPress.com
    CNAME *.firsttakesports.com handled by WordPress.com

Could I ask you to revisit the name servers that you added on GoDaddy’s end? They should be exactly the same as these:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

You don’t need to any extra periods to the name servers or any DNS records on top of these in order to complete the mapping.

Let me know how you got on with this or if you encounter any problems.

Ok, well Im on the Godaddy website now, and I entered the Nameservers exactly as described in the instructions here on wordpress. Their are exactly 3 records, and they are all entered exatcly as you have them above.

Their should be 3 seperate Nameserver records correct? Because thats what I have.

All I did at Godaddy was update the Nameservers to “custom” and then I proceeded to enter

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

If the nameservers are the problem then you’ll need to further expalin what’s wrong and how to fix it, because I called Godaddy and they said they were updated correctly.

Furthermore I just checked the domain helper tool and it also shows that all nameservers are entered correctly. I never added any additional periods.

I just called Godaddy again and had their “guys” look at everything on their end to ensure the domain was pointing over to wordpress correctly. They checked everything and ensured me it was good. I also mentioned to them what you said regarding the additional periods and they wanted to know how you were getting that information because they looked at everything upside and down and could not see where there were any problems.

    Hi Wes.

Thanks for your patience as I looked further into this.

The name servers for your domain were still showing incorrectly on our end and, after your last message, I was confused as to why. After chatting with my team, I found that it was due to the domain that you added containing capital letters. Adding mapping for FirstTakeSports.com will cause problems, while firsttakesports.com will work.

I’ve gone ahead to remove the original mapping, and replaced it with mapping for the all lower case version of your domain. If you visit firsttakesports.com now, you’ll be able to view your WordPress.com site.

Again, thanks for sticking with us as we got to the bottom of that.

Awesome thanks alot. Yes works good. WordPress should probably restrict caps in the domain! I noticed that also in the DNS file

I’m glad to hear you’re up and running now. :) I’m going to bring the capitalisation issue up with the team here so that we can think about better ways of handling it. Thanks for bring that up!
