Domain name hijacked
-
In January, my Domain name was up for renewal. At the time I was getting an average of 761 hits per day. My highest month was 907 hits in November of 2011. WordPress had a glitch in their system and did not send me the request to renew my domain name. As a result, I did not renew…and my hits dropped to 4 hits in February of 2012. WordPress suggested that I pick a new domain name, but my blog traffic has never recovered. I now average 34 hits a day. I am wondering if there is a way to contact WordPress and ask them to help me recover my old domain name from whomever took it.

Reaferring to domain name that was legitimately purchased by another from the Registrar after you failed to renew it prior to expiry as “hijacked” is inappropriate. I have flagged this thread for Staff attention.

If this is flagged for Staff attention, does that mean that someone will contact me?
My former blog domain was http://www.candidaclub.com
The new domain is http://www.candidaclub.orgIt is impossible for me to tell who took the candidaclub.com name because there is an error message when I go to that website. I feel like wordpress should be responsible for trying to recover this since they never alerted me that my domain needed to be renewed. I have a tremendous amount of content on my blog and would like to start working on developing an income from the site.

Hi aging,
Telling you I flagged the thread for Staff support means we Volunteers cannot resolve your issue and I have flagged the thread so Staff will respond to you in this thread. Please be patient while waiting.candidaclub.com Is Hosted by Virtual Development

Updated Date: 06-APR-2012
Expiration Date: 10-MAR-2013 -
The domain candidaclub.com expired on December 7. We sent three emails to the email address on your WordPress.com account prior to expiration, one a month before, followed by another a weeks before, then the last two days before.
Unfortunately, candidaclub.com has since been purchased by someone else.
-
That is unfortunate…since I never received those emails. I don’t understand why because I always have before. I don’t want to post my email address on a public forum, but could we work out a way to verify to which email address that those emails were sent. Perhaps you could send a tester now. I don’t understand why that domain would be purchased by Virtual Development. Is there a way to contact them and request it back?

They’re almost certainly a domain reseller. Try info@ their URL and see if you can get in touch with them.
-
The emails are sent to the email of record that purchased the upgrade – many times they go to the spam filter of your email
Do a whois – they are required to have contact info on file
Try candidaclub.com ( at ) monikerprivacy.net

If you can find out who bought it, sometimes they will resell it back to you. While it might cost you a pretty penny, you’d have your domain back. If you think it was that popular, it might be worth the investment. A previous poster has posted the information to help you get in contact with them.

The renewal emails were sent to the email address that you have set at Users -> Personal Settings in your Dashboard.
