Domain Name is Locked

Initially, I registered my domain name with 1and1.com Last week, I closed my account with them, but they locked my domain name. Now, I can’t register my domain name with WordPress. It keeps saying the domain name is taken when 1and1 should have released it when my account closed.
Customer Service at 1and1 told me that WordPress would need to enter an Authorization Code to use the domain name. Does this really need to be that complicated? How do I give WordPress an Authorization Code?

What is the domain?
If 1and1 is asking for a transfer code, that means the domain is not cancelled but still registered with them. That code is what you need to transfer an existing domain to a different registrar. However, it’s not possible to transfer domains to us in that way, so there is no way to use that code with us.
If the domain is still registered with 1and1 you can connect it here using the domain mapping upgrade instead. You will need to go to My Site ->Domains ->Add and select the Map It option, and then you also need to change the domain’s name servers on 1and1’s end. More details here:
