Domain name issue
-
I just bought the domain name mabelgrimes.com for my blog, formerly http://www.maverickraconteur.wordpress.com, and have found that my former links from my google+ profile lead to mabelgrimes.com, but when I try to type http://www.mabelgrimes.com into the search bar, I get one of those park pages that pops up when a domain name doesn’t exist. Is mabelgrimes.com a different location on the web than http://www.mabelgrimes.com? Or is it just that the domain change needs more time to kick in? Sorry, I’m not at all tech saavy.
Thanks for any answers or info :)

Congratulations! The nameservers appear to be set up correctly for mabelgrimes.com. mabelgrimes.com is set as the primary domain for maverickraconteur.wordpress.com and will appear in the address bar when you visit the site.
It can take as long as 72 hours for DNS changes to become widely available. If you’re still not seeing your site loading atr http://mabelgrimes.com/ please wait a few more hours, clear your browser cache, and try again.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clear-your-cache-and-cookiesI’m in Canada and the blog is correctly redirecting to your domain for me. See here to observe the progress https://www.whatsmydns.net/ and know it’s not uncommon for your own ISP to be last to flush their DNS cache.

Thanks for your reply, but it doesn’t quite answer my question. I just want to know if http://www.mabelgrimes.com and mabelgrimes.com are the same domain name. The latter is bringing up my site, but the former is not.

Yes they are. WordPress will strip out the www. for your convenience, and http://www.mabelgrimes.com// will always redirect to http://mabelgrimes.com/
www is an old protocol from back when everything was under separate server hardware. www (www.example.com) was the web server, mail (mail.example.com) was the mail server, ftp (ftp.example.com) was the FTP server, print (print.example.com) was the print server, etc. These days, everything is run under the web server, making www. redundant and a waste of four characters.

Awesome. I appreciate you taking the time to explain all of that. I had thought they’d be the same, but got nervous when one way worked and the other didn’t. Thank you!
