Domain name issue
-
Hello,
I sent an email last week about the domain name issue. I am trying chain the domain and remove wpcomstaging from it. I was told I would need to purchase a plan for the site in order to create the domain name I wanted. However, it seems this site already has a plan that has been purchased. Yet when I go to the settings, adding a custom domain is not an option. Please advise.WP.com: Yes

The site did have a Business Plan, but it expired on July 20 when it wasn’t renewed.
You can purchase a new Business Plan for the site from https://wordpress.com/plans

Ok thank you!
So is the business plan the upgrade that is required in order to get the wpcomstaging removed from the domain? When I try to add the personal plan to my purchase cart it says it is not an option for this site.

Hi there,
So is the business plan the upgrade that is required in order to get the wpcomstaging removed from the domain?
The “wpcomstaging’ address is one that we use only with sites that are on our business hosting, which is what gives the site the ability to upload plugins and themes.
You are using a few plugins on this site, which I’ll list here:
– Simple WordPress Membership
– Recent Posts Widget Extended
– Hide Featured ImageTo keep your site “as-is” but connect a custom domain to it will require our Business plan
When I try to add the personal plan to my purchase cart it says it is not an option for this site.
Correct, it’s not an option until we remove your site from our business hosting, and on to our shared cloud host. It’s not possible to use plugins on that platform, so we would also remove your plugins and you would lose access to that functionality.
Is it your intention to downgrade to the Personal Plan and you are OK with losing the ability to use plugins? If so let us know and we can revert the site to remove it from our business hosting, and then you can proceed with your Personal Plan purchase.
Let us know how you would like to proceed or if you have any questions.

Yes please take the site off business hosting and move to the shared cloud host. I would like to downgrade to the Premium plan and I am ok losing plug ins.
How should I move forward?

Hi again,
Staff will take care of this for you, thanks for confirming.
As with any revert process there is the possibility for other changes on your site that we can’t predict… we’re not sure what things get lost when plugins are removed since it also removes the functionality that was previously in use.
We’ll our best to retain as much as we can, and ask you to check the site and confirm everything is OK.
I’ll reply here to update you when it’s complete, thanks!

Oops, forgot to mention that during the revert your site will be private and not visible to the public. Also please no changes to the site until we give the OK, thanks!

Hi again,
I have reverted your site and removed the features of the Business Plan. You can see your site here and it looks much the same as before, but please check it over and let us know if anything is out of place: https://beawesome365.wordpress.com/
There was one issue with reverting that I wanted to discuss though, and that is the amount of media you have uploaded to your Media Library. At the moment you have 13GB of images and audio files on your site, which far exceeds the amount of storage space in our Personal Plan (6GB) so I would not recommend upgrading to that plan.
You can consider the Premium Plan instead, which offers 13GB of storage space, but the issue is that you will max out and not be able to add more media, since you already have 13GB of media as we speak.
Do you have the option to delete content from your media library, especially the .wav audio files you added? Audio files take up a lot of space, especially if they are in the .wav format. If you are able to delete some unused audio files this will save on space and help you to stay below the upload limit. You can also consider converting the audio files to MP3 on your computer (which saves considerable space over .wav format) and re-upload them to your site. This will allow you to retain your audio while still also keeping you below the upload limit.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
-
Thank you so much for your help. And yes, we will be deleting the audio files. So the Premium Plan should be plenty once we have cleaned out the .wav files.
Thanks again for your help!
-
Perfect. You can search for each file as you delete it, too, so you can update any posts that link to it.
Let us know if you need more help!

Hello,
Yesterday I switched my site from Business to Personal. Although it looks like everything is still there, each article is showing in full on the landing pages. For example, when I go to my “lifestyle” blog header, each of those blogs is showing in full on the same page before clicking the header for the specific article. I am thinking this may have happened when it was being converted and was hoping ya’ll had an easy fix for me. There are a lot of articles to have to go through and fix each one manually. :)
Thank you!

This is controlled by the theme. Some display excerpts on the archive pages, some display full content, and some have options to switch between those choices.
In this case, head over to https://beawesome365.wordpress.com/wp-admin/customize.php select “Content Options” and under “Blog Display” choose “Post Excerpt.”
