Domain name issue

  • Unknown's avatar

I am very confused. My domain name at siteground must have expired. I wasn’t told it was going to expire. Since it has, I would like to register it using wordpress since I have the premium service already, that was renewed this year, but I am confused on how to do that.
Can you please have someone walk me through the process.
My previous domain was ckbooksbpublishing.com. Since I can’t get to the page that way, I don’t know how to do the domain name issue. I looked at Domain helper and the mapping for existing domain names. I think I still own it but it’s not exactly clear to me. i still don’t know how to correct the issue.
Please, please help me ASAP! This is my job and oh so important to me. If I have to change it, it will be a significant hardship!
    Thanks

    Hi Christine,

After looking into your domain: CKBOOKSPUBLISHING.COM I found that your domain expired on January 28th, 2014. Since it expired your mapping is not working. Please contact your registrar (Enom) and renew it as soon as possible. You can find more information about your domain here:

    http://who.wildwestdomains.com/WhoIs.aspx?prog_id=wildwestdomains&domain=ckbookspublishing.com

Once the domain is renewed, and the nameservers are set to ours, you should be set!

    Cheers!

Grace, Can’t a register it with wordpress. I already pay for that service so I would like to do that vs paying someone else, again!
That is part of my issue with this problem, but I don’t know if that is possible or how to go about doing that.
Thank you so much for your help!

    HI Christine,

Please note that normally domain expirations can take up to 80 days. Since it just expired on the 28th of January, it would be a couple months before you could register it with us, and during this time it can be auctioned off before it is released. There’s a good chance that someone else will snatch up the domain before you do. Therefore, please renew the domain with your current registrar and just use the domain mapping upgrade to map it to your WordPress.com site.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

So how do I do this different next year? Can you start the registration before it expires?

Thanks for the information. I re-registered it.

    Hi Christine,

Unfortunately, that wouldn’t be possible. Luckily domain registration is just like a mailing address and won’t affect the content of your site. It is a bit of an annoyance to renew your registration and mapping in two different places, but auto-renewals can make it much easier.

I wish it were an easier process, but unfortunately this is the nature of domains.

If you would like to read more about the difference between registering and mapping (hosting) please view this guide below:

    Cheers!

    Good to know though unfortunate.
Thanks for your help and information.
And just so you know, the mapping happened automatically, maybe because it was already mapped to wordpress all of last year.
    Thanks Grace
