  Mapping a domain to a WordPress.com site means you continue to pay for your domain wherever you bought it, but the address will show on your site here. You’d need a paid plan here to make the mapped domain the primary one.
  Transferring a domain here means you’d pay for it here in future rather than wherever it was originally purchased. Note there are a few domains that can’t be transferred here and you also need to have owned the domain for at least 60 days.
