Domain Name Mapping – not working!
-
I have a custom domain http://www.simonmorris.me which I’d like assigning to my http://www.simonmorris71.wordpress.com blog. I’ve logged onto my account via the registrar that I bought the domain from, and changed the CNAME value to ns1.wordpress.com – however, after almost 72 hours I’m still unable to assign my custom domain via the WordPress ‘settings / domains / add a domain’ link… the response I keep getting is ‘the domain is not pointing to WordPress.com
I’ve tried contacting WordPress support but had no response… looking forward to some help on this score!
Thanks :-)

Hi. You need to follow the instructions given here to the letter:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/
You see, it says to change the nameservers, not the CNAME.It also says to contact staff so that they add a zone record for your non-US domain name. So when they get back to you, they’ll surely do that for you. Still, you need to change the nameservers, not the CNAME, now.

airodyssey – thanks!
I’ve been used to changing CNAME records when it comes to mapping a domain name… therefore completely ignored the words ‘domain name servers’… “D’oh!” ;-)
Thanks again! -
@simonmorris71
I have flagged this thread so it gets Staff attention and they a zone record for your non-US domain name for you. -

http://simonmorris.me/ appears to be working properly.
It can take domain changes up to 72 hours (though usually much less) to propagate to your ISP. Unfortunately, we have no control over this as it all depends on how often your ISP refreshes their DNS cache.

@simonmorris71: You’re welcome from me.
@timethief: Thanks for the teamwork with the modlook. I had overlooked that part when I wrote my response earlier on. :-)
