Domain Name Mapping/Masking with Subdomain

    Hello-

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere. I searched without success.

I want my WordPress blog to be hosted at a subdomain of my existing site, like this:

    http://blog.mydomain.com

I purchased the domain name upgrade and added the DNS CNAME record, per the instructions and if I go to http://blog.mysubdomain.com, the blog comes up.

However, if I go to http://blog.mydomain.com, it redirects to my WordPress blog URL, rather than sticking with the custom domain name I want to use.

How can I have the domain name that my blog is hosted at be and stay a custom domain name?

    Regards,
    Eric

It would be a heck of a lot easier on volunteers in the forum if you would provide the real links instead of the fake ones. Took me a while to figure out your problem.

Sounds like you made the changes in the wrong place. Once you set up the blog.domain.com on your host, the CNAME record change should have been made there. It looks like you made the CNAME change to blog.subdomain.com.

And it looks like you set blog.domain.com to do a redirect, which was incorrect. If you had set the CNAME records there, nothing else needed to be done.

(I am familiar with this because my blog is on a subdomain.)

Hi Vivian. I made the CNAME change on our DNS servers (currently hosted by Yahoo). They were made correctly. It looks like there might have been a timing or propogation issue either with the DNS servers at Yahoo or with some config info at WordPress (my guess is the later). Now, an hour after posting this message, everything is working as I would expect it to. The domain name currently mapped is http://jules.dailygrommet.com. Thanks for your help.
