Domain name mistakes

  “once you change the “example” part of example.wordpress.com, the old address will stop working. Visitors will NOT be redirected . . . The old address will not be available for use again.” (wordpress.com/support/changing-site-address/)

  I don’t understand this well enough to get started. I expect to make mistakes. I’d like to work with a draft first, to get the hang of it. Should I do a practice site? Am I allowed more than one using the free version? Where can I learn more about the implications of using the domain name I have registered, or using an example. Thank you.

  I would encourage you t set up a second site with a junk URL 9anagwerg4332.wordpress.com or something similar) and mess around with the system while you learn. There’s no need to change the URL that you would like to use on your “real” site.
