Domain name not available (but is available)

Why won’t wordpress let me buy a .co.uk domain? I know that it is still available because I have checked other sites, but would rather get the name/host my blog on WordPress. Just wondering why WordPress won’t offer it to me?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. Any domain name registrar can only register certain domain extensions. It’s not that they won’t let you register it, they can’t, as they do not have the ability to register those domains. The domains that you can register through WordPress.com are listed here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

If you want to register a domain with a different extension you’ll have to do it through a different registrar and then buy the mapping upgrade from WordPress.com to connect it to your blog. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

    HI !
Someone ask me to create her blog sandraminotti.wordpress.com (for a firsttime then She will probably pay to get sandraminotti.com).I have create it under my account ildikodao. Then I have realise that It has to be totally independant even if a am creating it.
I have delete the blog from my account, then disconnect and try to create a new blog : sandraminottiwordpress.com and i get the answer that it is already use !! which is not right, it was free two minutes ago.
How can i get back that name ? thanks !

  • sandraminotti.wordpress.com is no longer available.

The authors have deleted this site.

Next time, how about you read the three separate warning messages and the confirmation email that all very clearly stated that deleting a blog is permanent? That URL is now gone and no one will be able to register it, ever. You could have merely transferred the blog to a different account, but it’s too late to do that now.

You will now have to register a completely different wordpress.com URL, but if the person is going to buy a custom domain anyway that shouldn’t matter, as the custom domain will overlay the wordpress.com URL, so no one will see that.

    sorry,
it was not clear that it would concern everybody !
I though it would only concern me !! Deleting that blog could be permanent for me but bot for someone else to take that name.
If it is permanent for everybody it is a really easy way to do harm to people you do not like just by creating and deleting some personnal names !!

and I didnt received “three separate warning messages” .The email only says:
    Howdy,

You’re receiving this email because you clicked the “Delete Now” link for the site Sandra Minotti .

If you clicked that by accident or have changed your mind, ignore this email. Your site is still safe and sound.

TO PERMANENTLY DELETE YOUR SITE, click the confirmation link below. This immediately removes all your posts, pages, comments, and data, along with your site’s address. You won’t be able to recover them, and we will NOT ask you to confirm this again.

I wanted to create a new account for her .That’s all. Could you have a good suggestion for me to do it ?

  • If it is permanent for everybody it is a really easy way to do harm to people you do not like just by creating and deleting some personnal names !!

Actually the concern is more with other people re-registering a blog you deleted and impersonating you. See here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/

and I didnt received “three separate warning messages”

The warning messages appear on the WordPress.com dashboard as pop-ups before you receive the email. It used to be three – they might have changed that but you still would have received at least one confirmation message on the dashboard. Only once you approve that message is the email generated, as explained here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/

I wanted to create a new account for her .That’s all. Could you have a good suggestion for me to do it ?

To create a new account, log out of your account and register a new account from the WordPress.com home page. You won’t be able to register sandraminotti as a username as that username was reserved the moment you created the previous blog. As that blog is now deleted the reserved username is gone as well, so speak to this person and pick a username and URL to register.
