"Domain name not valid" no matter what I input?

  • Unknown's avatar

I am trying to map an existing domain to my page. No matter what I do, the URL (or any other existing URL for that matter) tells me it “does not appear to be a valid domain name.”

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Are you using these instructions?

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

I will flag this also for staff help in case they are fiddling with the mapping process

Yes, to a tee. I’ve already updated the name servers with my registrar hoping it would help (it didn’t). No matter what URL I put into the box — my desired URL that I own, http://google.com, anything — it returns the same message.

You did not post the domain you are working with – my guess is that it is: bluebombertalk.com.

I see the name servers changed, but there is no active Domain Mapping that I could see – the domain mapping needs to be active ($13.-/yr) for everything to work correctly

The staff are the only ones that can look at your details – this is the weekend so they might be a bit slow to help – requests are worked from oldest to newest

bluebombertalk.com is the domain I’m working with.

I’ve yet to pay the $13 fee but only because I’ve yet to see the option to do so. Every “upgrade” icon tries to sell me a premium package when all I want to do is map a domain.

You should still be able to buy just the domain mapping @ $13.-/yr – but the new Cable TV Bundle Up Sell pricing plan gets in your face from time to and seems to block any attempts to get around it – the staff should be able to help

    Hey there!

When you are logged into WordPress.com, try this link:
    https://wordpress.com/domains

If asked, click the WordPress.com site you want to map.

The very last box on the page should read:

    Already own a domain?
Map this domain to use it as your site’s address.

Click Map It. Then, follow the instructions.

Make sure you’re not entering the domain in the top of the page where you’re being asked to register a new domain.

If this is precisely what you ARE doing, and you’e still getting the error, let me know and I’ll give you another solution. Otherwise, finish up the process as directed on the page!

Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks much!

    Hi there.

Thanks for the assistance, but the site’s still not working. I punch my purchased URL into the box labeled “type in a domain to map” and I get the same “Sorry but http://bluebombertalk.com does not appear to be a valid domain name” error message every time.

    Hi again!

    So strange.

Here’s what I’ll do: I’m going to send you a manual billing request for $13. Once you complete that transaction, I’ll manually add bluebombertalk.com as a domain mapping upgrade to bluebombertalk.wordpress.com.

Keep an eye out for an email from to soon! Thanks much.

Hi there! I just saw your payment come in. Wow — you’re quick!

I’ve added domain mapping to your WordPress.com site.

http://bluebombertalk.com/ should be up and running very soon, as long as the name servers are all pointed to:

    ns1.wordpress.com
    ns2.wordpress.com
    ns3.wordpress.com

That should do the trick! If I can help in any other way, please drop me a line. Cheers :)
