Domain name not working

  • Unknown's avatar

I received an email confirmation that my domain name went through from WordPress and my bank account shows the fees paid. Yet, a week later, WordPress shows that I have the free account and my domain name is not working. Please advise.

    1. What is the domain URL?
    2. What is the underlying .wordpress.com URL?
    3. Exactly which username account registered the underlying .wordpress.com blog and purchased the upgrade for it?
    4. When was the upgrade purchased?

  • Hi there,

Your domain registration on 14 October failed – there was an outage at our registrar at that time. You should have received an email about this.

You will please need to go to My Site ->Domains and re-register that domain. When the registration failed your payment was automatically credited to your account, so you won’t need to pay for it again.

I completed the above process, three times. It still is not going through. And yet, my bank has been charged the funds. I am on a deadline here and need immediate resolve. Please advise. Why have I been charged and my domain is not working? Since October 14th!!!!! This is not okay.

  • You have only been charged once, on 14 October, and as I said above that payment was credited to your account so you should be using those credits to pay for the domain. Because you’ve tried to pay again too many times in quick succession you’ve been blocked by our anti-fraud measures, and additionally the multiple registration attempts have now caused a problem with our registrar as well.

We’ve unblocked you in our system. Please do the following now:

    1. Go to My Site ->Domains and again add the domain.

    2. When given the option to add private registration, DO NOT add it. If you add private registration the domain registration will fail again.

    3. On the checkout screen, DO NOT enter your payment details again. There will be a button that says Pay With Credits. Click that.

    4. You should receive a confirmation email that your domain has been registered.

    5. Post here again once you receive that email and then I can enable private registration manually from this end.

If the registration fails, also let me know here. Please don’t try over and over again, as all you’re going to achieve is to get yourself blocked again.

I was trying to use the credits to pay. It said it went through. I got a confirmation email that it went through. And waited, before attempting again, for the domain process to work. Yet it didn’t. Even though I got a confirmation email saying it went through. That is confusing and inaccurate information I am receiving. I just attempted to do it again, without the private- as directed. Hopefully this will resolve the situation.

  • Thank you for trying again. I can confirm your domain is now registered and active and showing your site. Private registration is also now enabled.

I apologise that this has been so much trouble. But I’m afraid that there’s not much we can do directly if there is an outage at our registrar but wait for them to fix it, and then try to re-register. I know it doesn’t make up for it, but I’ve issued you a refund for part of the domain’s cost. You should receive it within about 10 business days.
