Domain name of my own choice

Hi!
Is it possible to just upgrade my domain name to ‘example.com’ instead of ‘example.wordpress.com’? I tried already, but I can obviously only upgrade the whole plan I have. I don’t need the other features the premium plan has so is it possible to just pay for the domain name? Thank you for your help!

Hello pavasaniina,
It is no longer possible to purchase domains individually. Instead they are now included with the upgrade to the Premium plan. This was a recent decision to facilitate the best combination of value & performance for our users.
If you wish to not go with WordPress.com Premium, I’d recommend that you go down the path of self-hosting through WordPress.org through a hosting provider of your choice (eg. Blueost, HostGator, SiteGrounds, etc).

According to staff, that option is no longer available for $18. It’s only available as part of the Premium (or Business) plan:
