Domain Name on GoDaddy right now

Best to wait until I can transfer it or just cancel it?

  • Hi there,

Can you provide a bit more detail on what you’re trying to do?

If you want to use your GoDaddy domain on your WordPress.com site, you can do that via our domain mapping upgrade included in all our paid plans:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

If you’d prefer to transfer the domain to us, but the domain is currently under a mandatory transfer lock, you can map it in the meantime and transfer it to us once it becomes eligible at no additional cost.

    Hi there, Kokkieh,
I’m so sorry about my disjointed inquiry and I appreciate your clarity. I’ll claim newbie for this (website builds were far simpler about 17 years ago ;)– I’m working on the build-start of my website; GoDaddy seems a bit simpler, but also seems very limited by my inexpert comparison. Furthermore, my added research shows that WP is viewed as industry standard. While I purchased Domain Name through GoDaddy, I also see there is a business option allowing me to a very basic WP hosted business site, for about $6 per month, but it’s not clear if this is on top of the $96 initial WP investment or if the GoDaddy site- which is already purchased for the 3 months (which is also the transfer lock duration) is something I should just close- I’m within two weeks of open at this point, so I’m not entirely sure that I’m happy or clear on business potential with what I’ve got. What’s your opinion on my thought that I should just scrap the whole thing with GoDaddy and then try to claim the DN and start over with WP from the start… although the DN would theoretically be at risk unless I could close with GD and start immediately with WP. Suggestions? Thanks for your patience,
    Dae

Perhaps it’s best if you read
    https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/
to check out the differences between the host WordPress.com (here) and the wordpress software you can use at other hosts,
Also don’t cancel your domain entirely if you wish to move it elsewhere (here?) . There is no guarantee you’d be able to recover it promptly if at all. If you decide to build a site over here at WordPress.com instead you can begin with a free one with a .wordpress.com subdomain and then upgrade to a paid plan when you’re ready to map or transfer your GoDaddy domain to the WordPress.com site following the links provided above by @kokkieh

Awesome! That is super helpful! Thanks so very much. :) BTW; Elizabeth’s post takes a lot of the mist out of the view; good writer!
    Thanks so much, Danaë
