Domain name problems

  If I own a domain name and it has expired, can WordPress.com take over and renew the domain for me?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Expired domain names can only be renewed with the registrar that holds the domain name until the domain name is released to the wild for anyone to buy the domain name –

  releasing the domain name can take up to around 60 or more days – the oiginal registrar is not required to release the domain name – they can hold it for their own account, auction it off to the highest bidder etc. There is an entire industry that buys domain names that have expired and holds them for hostage or maps the domain name to some sort of spam site (Porn and all ad sites are common)

  i had a feeling. think i’ll just have to buy the .com version of my name for now and maybe when the original .net version comes available buy it too and map it to my blog as well

  That also works – you can map more than one custom domain name to a blog here
