Domain name purchase and cancellation

    I just took over a site for a client here on wordpress.com. They are now going self hosting. They purchased a domain name here and then canceled it. I have both receipts. They should not have cancelled it. Can I get it back and then redirect it to our self hosted server?

    How long ago did they cancel? You can enter the domain name here for a current status:

    Was the domain cancelled within 48 hours in which case it may become available to register elsewhere in a few days if no one else gets it first. If the domain was purchased here at WordPress.com more than 48 hours ago perhaps it can be recovered by staff. What is the domain and was it purchased under a different account to the one you are posting from? This thread has been tagged for staff attention.

    @bloomingcollection, if this is about bronsonbloomingcollection.com, in this case the domain was cancelled and the site was deleted.

    Since it was recent, we can do this at your request, given that you are logged in as the upgrade owner:
    – restore the site
    – create an invoice for the domain (as the payment was refunded)

    After that is paid we can restore the domain to the account.

    Then I’d recommend the following
    – point the name servers to the new host
    – initiate a transfer of the domain
    – after the domain is transferred, delete the old site if you’d prefer, or set it to private.

    Then as you say above I will transfer the domain name and then delete the site.

    I tried to purchase it elsewhere but it wasn’t available as wordpress.com owns it.

    I am ready to transfer the domain to another service. When I go under manage domains all I see is bronsonbloomingcollectionblog.wordpress.com yet the receipt shows the domain as bronsonbloomingcollection.com. Can you tell me how to go about getting the code to transfer the bronsonbloomingcollection.com domain to another registrar? Thanks

    Howdy –

    Things are all set now. bronsonbloomingcollection.com has been restored to the account. Sorry we didn’t make it super clear, but that is a manual process on our end. Once the payment is received we can go ahead and restore the domain.

    Please give the transfer another try. Write back if you need anything else. You should now see the domain listed and not just the free site.

    Thank you for fixing that. I have now unlocked the domain and requested the code to transfer it twice now, but it doesn’t show up in my email or my spam folder. How can I get this code to finish the transfer?

    @bloomingcollection, I can see a few auth codes were sent already. Can you try searching your email to see if they’re ending up in spam?

    For example, with gmail you can search like this:

    in:all bronsonbloomingcollection.com transfer
