Domain Name Purchase and is Web Hosting Necessary

    I’m currently running a blog on wordpress.com. I’ve googled and done all the research I can do but I’m still not completely sure how to go about purchasing a domain name or web hosting.

    From my understanding, because my site is run through wordpress.com, I don’t need to concern myself with hosting as WordPress does that for me. So am I correct in saying that if ALL I want to do is register a domain name to obtain a custom web address (with no wordpress in it) is sign up for payment plan with a registrar?
