Domain Name Registration

  I am trying to register a domain name; however, I am unable to do so because I keep seeing that I will be charged $99 for a premium site upgrade, rather than the $18 for annual domain registration.

  It sounds like this is a change that has been made in the last few weeks.

  Domains are no longer available for purchase or mapping individually. They are included with WordPress.com Premium. This change has been made as we work to offer the best combination of value and performance for users while still offering a completely free product for those who do not wish to purchase any upgrades.

  If you want the custom domain but aren’t interested in a premium WordPress.com plan, you may want to consider a self-hosted (WordPress.org) WordPress site.
