Domain name registration
-
Hello, I previously had the domain servicenowgems.com. My registration has now expired and I cannot afford 99$ at the moment, but I would like the domain back. I have tried registering it elsewhere and it says it’s already taken? How long until you release the domain so that my site can continue?
Thank you

Hey there,
If you’re wanting to transfer your domain, you should never cancel it at your current host because once you decide to cancel your domain, there is no guarantee that you will be able to reacquire it in the future. Someone else could gain access to it. Also, the expired domain goes through a redemption period of around 80 days where someone could purchase it through auction.

If you want to keep using your domain but you don’t want to use WordPress.com anymore, you don’t have to cancel it. Instead, you can move the domain to another site
https://en.support.wordpress.com/transfer-domain-registration/
For more information on using the domain elsewhere, please see:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/move-domain/
Otherwise, you can wait out the redemption period in hopes that you are able to register it before anyone else. It is definitely a risk. If you decide to re-register with us, I can assist you with paying for only the domain registration and mapping, which is $18.
Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

Hey Darnell, thanks for the info. Yeah I didn’t even think of the domain as I was cancelling! I’ve cancelled now but would like my domain back. I’ve tried going to the domain registration plan but my domain is unavailable (it’s still WP owned and not released or purchased by anyone else). Are you able to help me get it back? Thanks

Hi there,
I have contacted our registry partners in regards to recovering your domain. I’ll let you know once I hear from them. Thanks!

I paid $13 for site mapping last year, then I discovered I didn’t need it because my DNS service Omnis.com provides it for free.
But now that it’s expired, WordPress is blocking my site, and demanding that I “reregister” my domain. This seems to be a dark pattern to me. My domain, soulipsis.com, is registered with Omnis. I don’t need to reregister. They are bullshitting me and withholding a contracted service which I pay for by allowing advertising on my blog, soulipsis.wordpress.com.
How can I get wordpress to stop blocking my site? Thank you!

Hi there,
soulipsis.com is indeed registered with Omnis.com, but if you are using the domain with a site hosted with WordPress.com, you must purchase a mapping subscription. I can remove the mapping subscription from your account so that you have access to http://soulipsis.wordpress.com/, but soulipsis.com will no longer be connected to the site.
If you are wanting to use soulipsis.com with a site hosted at Omnis.com, then you definitely do not need domain mapping. But if you are pointing the name servers of the domain to another host – that host will charge for mapping.
For more information on how domain mapping works, please visit our support page:

Let me know if you would like for me to remove mapping from your account or if you have any other questions. Thanks!

Dear Darnell:
Thanks very much, please remove mapping from my account, assuming I can restart it when I want.
Have you seen this?

Hi there,
I removed the mapping subscription from your account. You can repurchase the domain at any time. I’ll take a look at the link you provided.
Thanks!
