Domain name retrieval (redemption period)
-
I realized recently that I’ve accidentally allowed my domain name (meganmakeever.com) to expire. I had my blog set up to automatically renew, but I recently got a new credit card and forgot to update my payment options… and here we are.
According to WhoIs.com, my domain is in its redemption period, and I want to recover it as soon as possible. I understand that I need to pay a retrieval fee at this point, and the instructions on my dashboard indicate that I need staff support to actually get the domain name back. I’ve already filled out a wordpress support form a couple of days ago, following a direct link from the expiration notice on my dashboard, but I’m still waiting for a reply.
I’m worried that retrieving the name will be even more cumbersome than usual because I can’t seem to enter new credit card information. Because all my upgrades are currently expired, I don’t have an option to “Update Credit Card” on anything, and there doesn’t seem to be any way to add billing information to my profile. Please let me know what I should do!

Our records show that meganmakeever.com expired 51 days ago on 2014-04-29.
Domain expiration is a lengthy and complicated process that takes about 80 days. During this time, your domain may be put up for auction or sold on back-order. You can learn more about domain expiration here:
The good news is that we may still be able to recover your domain if it has not yet been deleted or purchased by someone else. A late renewal fee of $80 will be added to the regular price of renewal. This fee is charged by the domain registry and is not one which we can waive.
I’ve sent a payment link to the email address that is associated with your WordPress.com user account.
The total price will be $98, which is $18 for the regular renewal plus the $80 late renewal fee.
Please reply back if you have submitted the payment so we can begin the recovery process. If we are unable to recover your domain your payment will be refunded.
If you do not wish to pay the $80 fee you may let the domain expiration process continue and attempt to register the domain again at the regular price once it has expired completely.
Please note that someone else may purchase the domain first, in which case you will be unable to register it again, but if you prefer this option just let us know and we’ll be happy to provide you further instructions.
