Domain name switched to IP address…?

  I’m rather new to WordPress technology… I have tech experience but this is beyond me. I have my DNS name registered.. x.com. While using x.com/wordpress the site loads perfectly fine, resolves the DNS but then switches my domain name to my external IP in the web browser’s URL.
  I run the blog off of a local ubuntu server edition machine.. it works great! I know the port forwarding is set up correctly- all other services work. Ive just come into contact with the idea of name servers. Do I need one to keep my DNS from changing? Sorry for the newbie topic.

  If you indeed run the blog off your own server, you need to be at WordPress.ORG, not WordPress.COM. They are entirely separate systems.

  Are you using wordpress.ORG ? probally.
