Domain name taken?

  Hi, I was in the process of picking a domain name out (ariseandthrive.com) and WordPress said that it was taken but when I Googled that domain name, it says the IP address could not be found? Is it possible that that domain could have been used in the past but is no longer an active website anymore? I would really love to have it for my own website. Thanks!

  Hi there,

  WordPress.com can’t help in this case as someone already registers a domain. You can get contact info from Whois database, and you can directly try to convince the person if he can transfer the domain to you :).

  If he agrees to transfer the doamin, then you check this document https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/

  Hi there,

  Whether or not the domain is connected to a site (has an IP address) is irrelevant.

  The domain is registered, meaning someone else already owns it. Whether they’re using it or not, you cannot register a domain that’s owned by someone else.
