Domain name too long

When I want to change the domain and add a CNAME, my ISP returns this error message:

“The domain name you entered is too long. The top level domain (TLD) you entered is not valid.”

Is there a way to shorten my wordpress domain name so the alias is accepted by DNS?

It sounds like you may not be entering the right thing into the right fields. Typically, for the first field you would enter the subdomain you are trying to setup, such as “blog.” And then in the second field you would enter arcandfeuilletimmobilierfloride.wordpress.com. That should work. If you’re not sure how to enter the records, can you contact your registrar and ask them to help you create a CNAME record pointing from whatever “subdomain” like “blog” that you want and have it point to arcandfeuilletimmobilierfloride.wordpress.com?

It’s 1&1 that seems to have a limit in the number of characters a domain may have. I found in WordPress where to change the subdomain name to a shorter name. Then I went back to 1&1 to change the DNS setting and add the domain to the new CNAME. That worked fine. Thanks for your replies.
