WordPress.com does not accept incoming domain transfers. You can, however, map drom your .wordpress.com blog to an existing domain > http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

Howdy!
Our infrastructure currently doesn’t support transferring existing domain names to WordPress.com. If you’d like to use your domain with your blog, you’ll need to use our domain mapping upgrade.
Please let me know if I can be of any further help.

Well, that’s a bummer… so is what you’re saying is I would have to map my existing domain and have my visitors redirected from my current site to my WordPress site? Does that mean when they arrive at WordPress, the domain they see in the address bar will be different? I’m trying to maintain a sense of continuity.

It just means that to do things like renew the domain you’ll have to deal with the people managing it now. Otherwise, it will be seamless for your readers (apart from the period when the DNS is settling down, which only lasts a day or so). User will see your custom domain, as long as you set it to Primary on your Dashboard->Domains page.
