domain name transfer vs mapping

I purchased a domain name from google, and I’m just unsure of what to do in terms of transferring it to wordpress or mapping it and keeping it under google. If I transfer it, does that mean I can never potentially create my own website outside of wordpress?

  • Hi there,

If I transfer it, does that mean I can never potentially create my own website outside of wordpress?

No, that is not what it means. Transferring the domain to us simply means we will become your domain provider, instead of Google. But you’ll still be able to point it at another hosting provider, or transfer it away from us completely if you later decide to, just like you can now do those same things while the domain is still registered with Google.

Whether or not you transfer is up to you – do you prefer to manage your domain and site in the same place? Then transfer. Do you prefer to keep your domain and site separate? Then leave the domain at Google and map it here instead.

There might also be differences in the annual renewal cost of the domain with us vs Google, but that’s really all there is to it.

Let me know if you have any more questions about this.
