I have a blog. I have hosting through hostgator. I now want to build a website. I want to do this off line with the blog still live. I have been advised that you hold the domain name still and that I need this transferred to me in order to separate the two blogs, build the website and then put the blog back on. This all seems very complicated as I thought I dod own the domain name. I hope you can help!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

I’m a bit confused. Can you please let me know which domain it is? Once your Hostgator site is ready, if the domain is registered through us you can then point the site via the nameservers as seen here:

I am very confused! I thought I owned the domain name. I paid for it via wordpress. But it hasn’t been released to me.

    sorry it is pleasemissmummy.com

Yes that domain is registered through us. It is yours. If you want to use it with Hostgator, once your ready just update the name servers to Hostgator.

according to the domain management page it is already on the hostgator server (twice). I’m not sure why it is that I need to do anything.

I see that is has been changed to Hostgator.

    Cheers!

You moved your site to Hostgator so we currently have no access to your Hostgator site. These are completely two different entities. Even though you are using the self-hosted, WordPress install on WordPress.org, it has no relation to WordPress.com. To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities. At WordPress.com, we provide hosting, support, and tons of features for blogs. Users also have the option to purchase a variety of upgrades to customize the look and feel of their blog. WordPress.org is a software for self-hosted sites. With WordPress.org, users are provided access to all backend files and can upload custom themes and plugins.

Check here to learn more about the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org:

So at this time, the only connections with us is that your domain is registered through us. Any site related questions should be taken to your host, Hostgator. Just make sure your domain is renewed yearly through WordPress.com by going to Store > My Upgrades in your Dashboard and your site will remain up.
