Domain Name updated Website broken – Free Acct.
-
Hi, approx. 5 hours ago I updated my domain name spelling from hustlehealer.wordpress.com to healthehustle.wordpress.com.
And yes, you guessed it, the site broke. When I perform a Google search and click on my link, I get the following error
‘hustlehealer.wordpress.com is no longer available.
The authors have deleted this site.’
I am assuming all of my social media shares and external site promotions contain a dead link.
At this point, I’ll just accept my original domain hustlehealer.wordpress.com
Please help!!WP.com: Yes
Jetpack: No
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

When you changed your site address it was very clearly stated the old address would be deleted and locked forever. So there is no way to get that domain back.
It’s logical all links to the old site address are broken.
You find all info at https://wordpress.com/support/changing-site-address/

I did read that, but I thought for sure that everything would be forwarded. Two and a half years worth of post 😞

Hi there,
It seems like you expected something else when changing your site’s address; I’m sorry for the confusion. When what you want is a new address, that will redirect to the old one, the best thing to do is register a custom domain:
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/register-domain/.
I can see you already have a custom domain on your site, but it is not your primary address – you’d need a paid plan for that:
As @staartmees mentioned above, your content is not gone; it’s just not available under the old address anymore. We may still recover the old address, but it would be a new site – you would have to import all the content manually, and work on your design from scratch, so I’m not sure this is what you’d like to do? Let us know.

Thank you so much for your replies. I would like to first clarify before I make a decision. I was expecting WordPress to auto-redirect and point to the updated spelling of the domain name (hustlehealer.wordpress.com ⏩healthehustle.wordpress.com)
Clarification,
Recovering the old address, would that result in the need to export/import the site contentz? Would you help me port over my subscribers as well? Am I correct that my “likes” would not port over? Would we be setting up a “redirect” (hustlehealer.wordpress.com ⏩healthehustle.wordpress.com)? Would I also be purchasing an additional domain name “health hustle? WordPress”? When I upgraded my plan, would I then be serting up a second redirect (hustlehealer.wordpress.com ⏩healthehustle.wordpress.com ⏩ healthehustle.blog)?Thank you

Hi there,

To get your site address back to hustlehealer.wordpress.com is definitely a bit of work at this point. Yes it would mean that you would need to export/import all content, move subscribers, stats, likes would be reset, etc.
This is why we display a warning message when changing your WordPress.com site address, because it’s pretty much a one way street.
Would we be setting up a “redirect” (hustlehealer.wordpress.com
healthehustle.wordpress.com)?
Instead of jumping through the hoops mentioned above, I would recommend setting up a redirect instead of manually moving all content back to your old site address.
It’s $13/yr to set up a site redirect, but this would ensure that anyone visiting hustlehealer.wordpress.com would be automatically redirected to healthehustle.wordpress.com, including Google. You can leave the upgrade in place for one year and that is usually enough time to allow everyone (including Google) to update their links to your new address at healthehustle.wordpress.com.
Let us know if you are interested in setting this up and we will get the ball rolling for you.
Would I also be purchasing an additional domain name “health hustle? WordPress”? When I upgraded my plan, would I then be serting up a second redirect (hustlehealer.wordpress.com
healthehustle.wordpress.com
healthehustle.blog)?
The redirect I mentioned above is specifically for pointing one “wordpress.com” address to another one. It will mean you can stay at healthehustle.wordpress.com without any loss in traffic. If you want to switch to a different address, like healthehustle.blog, that is possible without a site redirect upgrade.
We’re happy to explain how that works, and yes it would be possible to set up a redirect from hustlehealer.wordpress.com
healthehustle.wordpress.com
healthehustle.blog if that is what you wish.
Thanks for confirming.

13$ a year? Sign me up please. Yes!
The question, when I upgrade to the pro plan and utilize health hustle? blog, will there be any additional steps needed since I will have an active redirect?
What are the future drawbacks or complications of having this redirect
I 100% want to purchase and install that redirect today? Thanks

Hi there!
Please go to this link and click where it says “from this screen“. When it asks to choose a site, you will want to select hustlehealer.wordpress.com, as that’s the site you’ll buy Site Redirect on. As the destination of the Site Redirect, you’ll choose healthehustle.wordpress.com.
When Site Redirect is purchased and set up, visitors going to hustlehealer.wordpress.com will be redirected to healthehustle.wordpress.com.
You can definitely upgrade healthehustle.wordpress.com to a WordPress.com plan and use any other upgrade as needed. It won’t be affected by the Site Redirect, which is on a different site (hustlehealer.wordpress.com). Other than site redirect, all upgrades you want should be on healthehustle.wordpress.com.
I checked and noticed you have purchased the WordPress.com Premium plan and made healthehustle.blog the primary domain now.
So when the site redirect is set up, hustlehealer.wordpress.com will redirect to healthehustle.wordpress.com, which then redirects to the primary domain on the site, healthehustle.blog. I’m guessing that’s the expected outcome of this setup, right?
Feel free to let us know if there’s anything else you need and we’ll be happy to help.

Question, is there a better way to do this? A way that renders my site more SEO friendly? Will two site redirects hurt a sites ranking?

Hello there,
Question, is there a better way to do this? A way that renders my site more SEO friendly? Will two site redirects hurt a sites ranking?
I wouldn’t say there is a better way to do this – and this is the most SEO friendly way to do this also, because Google and other search engines respect redirects.
A redirect is a formal way of saying to search engines “Hey, I’ve updated my address and so my content can now be found at this new address here.“
Rankings should be maintained, along with traffic levels.
I hope this helps. :)

Super helpful.
But i get this error messgae There is a problem adding Site Redirect that points to Hustlehealer.wordpress.com.

Hi there,
Instead of typing healthehustle.wordpress.com into the field, type in healthehustle.blog
Let me know if that works for you. Thanks!
-
This worked very well thank you.
Question: since i have the redirect, do I need tk maintain a “paid” account?
-
A paid plan allows you to keep healthehustle.blog as the primary domain for your site. Without a paid plan, healthehustle.wordpress.com would be the primary domain, and both hustlehealer.wordpress.com and healthehustle.blog would redirect to that URL.
With that said, any paid plan will work, it doesn’t have to be the Premium Plan that you currently are subscribed to.

Hope this helps.
