domain name / upgrading to Premium

Hi, I’m just setting up my blog/website before paying for Premium, but I want to check first that I will be able to change my website name to http://www.architecturemapua.co.nz? It’s currently http://www.architecturestudiomapua.wordpress. My actual / old website is architecture-sw.co.nz, am I able to have my old website redirected to my new wordpress one up until my old one expires in July/ August?
Thanks for your help in advance.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can continue to use the http://www.architecture-sw.co.nz/ address if you’d like with Domain Mapping. Furthermore, WordPress.com does not register .nz addresses so if you want to use http://www.architecturemapua.co.nz/ you’ll need to register it with another registrar, and then use Domain Mapping. You do not need the Premium upgrade package to use Domain Mapping.
Note: each web address will require its own Domain Mapping upgrade, so if you’re planning on letting architecture-sw.co.nz expire in July/August, there might not be much point in purchasing two upgrades (which are good for a year at a time) when one will expire in less than half that time.

You want to keep the old name for a while – either map the old site to your blog here along with the new name – and set the new name as “Primary”

The reason to keep the old name for a while is that search engines have the old name indexed and if you just delete the old name the search engines will return a “site not found / can’t find server” – that is typical of a company that went out of business –

you could probably also do a domain forward at your registrar (don’t do forward & mask) to your new site name here –
