Domain name use
-
Hello
I am contacting you now on behalf of my wife, Nicola POWYS. Her site, powysplays.com, was being hosted by you at WordPress.
However, now when visiting the site, you receive the folwing message :
‘Something unexpected happened while accessing this website. It looks like it doesn’t have an active domain connection upgrade to link the requested domain name to the WordPress.com site.If this is your domain name and it has recently stopped working, it’s possible that your plan or domain may have expired. Please log in to your WordPress.com account and review the status of your plan and domain. ‘
I want to restore the access to the domain name powysplays.com, that is registered with 123-reg.co.uk
so we can build a new site. Please can you explain what the process is to do this; ie, transfer the domain name to 123-reg.co.uk
Many thanks,

Hi Andrew,
http://powysplays.com/ used to be connected to a site on WordPress.com via our Domain Connection upgrade, but that upgrade expired in January and was subsequently removed from the site.
At the moment that domain is also pointing to 123-reg’s servers, so if it still directs you to WordPress.com, it’s your browser cache doing that. On my end the domain just loads a blank page.
The site itself is still accessible at the free WordPress.com address, https://powysplays.wordpress.com/. If you want to reconnect the domain to that site, log into the account that owns it, upgrade to a paid plan, and add a new domain connection upgrade. Then log in at 123-reg again and point the domain back to our servers, and you’ll be all set:
https://wordpress.com/en/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/
If you preferred, you could also transfer the domain registration to us – this is free for one domain under all our paid plans.
If you want to use that domain with a new/different WordPress.com site, you can do that as well. In that case, just add the paid plan and domain connection/domain transfer upgrade to the new site instead.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear, or if you have any other questions :)
