domain name when I cancel blog with iPage
-
I can’t get help to fix my blog hosted on iPage, so am canceling it. I believe I purchased my domain name through WordPress. Can you tell me if that’s the case, and also, what will happen to my domain name when I cancel with iPage? Can I still move it elsewhere? Or, should I try to do that before my subscription to iPage ends?
-
Where is the record that I purchased my domain name from WordPress? It is not on my account, although I recently renewed it and received an email message from WordPress to that effect.
-
Hi @lavinadblossom, we’d be happy to take a look. I don’t see any domains registered with this account, though: could you let us know what the domain is?
For what it’s worth, I’d recommend getting your content off iPage and securely moved to your new site prior to cancellation, if at all possible. If you’ll send the site link we’ll check to see what options are available.
-
Hi again lavinadblossom — can you log out, and log back in using the email address that received the notification?
Also, I’ll see if I can merge this new thread with your older one so your information is in one place.

My domain name is
lavinablossom.com
And here is my confirmation email message:
WordPress.com
Thank you for flying with WordPress.com, a better way to blog.Billed To

I realize that I have 2 logins, one with my older email address. I do see my purchase of my domain name there.Sorry to have bothered you about that.
I will attempt to delete the login using my gmail address and update the other account with that address. That should eliminate future confusion. My last backup is corrupted. I am not sure if it would be better to start over, since I would be carrying along the corrupted files if I transferred the blog. Not sure what to do. If I could determine what exactly is corrupted, maybe I could delete that plugin for those files (?) before I transferred the blog. Any suggestions?
-
It looks like deleting the WordPress account with my gmail address is not a good idea for now. When I started to do that, a notice came up that I could not open another account with that email (gmail) address for 30 days. That may mean I can’t update my other count (the original one) with my gmail address either. I will leave this problem of 2 accounts on hold for the time being. I created my blog within iPage, so it’s not directly attached to either WordPress account (if that could happen or makes any sense, which I am not sure about).
-
Let’s get you logged into the correct account first.
On this account, go to https://wordpress.com/me/account
Before @gmail.com, add +extraaccount like this:
(email visible only to moderators and staff)You can make that +1, +whatever, +doesnotmatter … whatever letters or numbers make the most sense to you. Gmail will ignore the plus sign and anything after it.
Save the changes, then go to you regular gmail account to confirm the change.
Then, we can sort out whether to start fresh or continue with the backup you have.
Then, log into your other account and update its address to the one you want to use. Save the changes, confirm by clicking from the email.
And once you’ve done all of that, write back here and we’ll work on the next issue.

Hi,
I added the “+extraaccount,” but don’t know what you mean
by “go to your regular gmail account to confirm the change.”
How does what I did in WordPress effect my gmail? Do I need
to change my gmail address to add the “+extraacount?” I’m
taking the steps in the order you list them, so want to be sure
I get this right.Lavina

but don’t know what you mean
by “go to your regular gmail account to confirm the change.Once you’ve entered a new email address and clicked “Save Account Settings,” you’ll receive an email at the “new” gmail address (which is your regular gmail since again gmail ignores anything after the “+”) with a confirmation link. You must click the confirmation link to confirm the change and update the email on your account.
Hope that helps.
-
Okay, I have changed and confirmed email addresses on both accounts. I now have my gmail address (without the +extraaccount attached to it) in my earliest WordPress account, which shows that I have my domain name through WordPress. What would you suggest that I do next?
-
OK. So now you should be able to use either account as you’d like, and you can use your real / current email address to log into the one that has the domain upgrade.
Next, we need to figure out what you want to do so we are all on the same page.
Is this the content you want to import back into WordPress.com?

Yes, that is my blog. I guess it’s best to move it before it can be deleted by iPage. But I am concerned that subscribers disappeared after the last WordPress upgrade (Jetpack errors). I have deactivated Jetpack. Work on that problem after moving content? And if I get that problem fixed, could I get help to move my content to a different host?

Your subscribers have disappeared because you deactivated Jetpack. Those subscribers still exist on our database, and the moment you reconnect Jetpack you’ll see them again and they’ll get updates of your new posts. We can also migrate those to a WordPress.com site for you, along with your Jetpack stats, if you want.
Work on that problem after moving content? And if I get that problem fixed, could I get help to move my content to a different host?
Where exactly do you want to move your content?
If you want to move it to on WordPress.com, we will become your host, and in that case we can move your subscribers to a WordPress.com site – if you do this I recommend you move things to the
blossomlavina.wordpress.comsite that belongs to yourlavinablossomaccount, as that’s where your domain also is.You can see how to migrate your content from the existing site to us here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/
If you want to move your site to another host, you need to contact the host you want to use directly for help getting your site migrated to them. In that case there’s no need to move your subscribers – as long as you continue using the same domain, your subscribers will be back the moment you reconnect Jetpack via the site at the new host.

Hello,,,my issue was registered a domain for a small company using my account. Now they said stop using their domain and i got never paid anyway. Can i copy all content on my own domain, and that existing domain i don’t want to delete but map to my own domain when it search?? thanks
-
Hi dewadavid –
For future inquiries please open up a new thread of your own.
What is the domain in question? Did you register it? If so, you are the owner of that domain.
Yes, WordPress.com sites can be exported on to a new site so you don’t lose data.
-
If I move my blog content and domain name to WordPress, I understand that it no longer belongs to me. Can you clarify what rights I give up if I am hosted by WordPress?
-
lavinablossom- Good Morning :)
If I move my blog content and domain name to WordPress, I understand that it no longer belongs to me. Can you clarify what rights I give up if I am hosted by WordPress?
That is not true. You’re not giving up any rights to the content. We take zero ownership over your site content. We make it easy to take the content and move elsewhere through our export tool if you desire that in the future.

Good. My blog has some problems, the main one being that Subscribers do not show up on the dashboard. I have deactivated and reactivated Jetpack (which apparently caused this problem during the last WordPress update). I am debating whether to let go of my existing blog for that reason & others and starting over with WordPress, rebuilding a site with a more recent theme (I have Twenty-ten, and suspect it may be a problem). I would pay for the Premium hosting so that I can add plugins (assuming that is allowed). I would need to move my domain name from iPage at that point. Or, would WordPress provide any help in fixing my blog after I moved it? This is a dilemma for me.
