Domain names
-
Please bear with me if I come across as forceful it is not my intention I just want to get all my points down before my brain goes to sleep.
1. I have had this blog now for 2 years (Nov. 2009) named The Body Principle. I checked the domain names to make sure no one else had bodyprinciple before and of course it was available. How can someone in 2011 use bodyprinciple as a domain name in the US? I thought it was taken by me?
2. Also to keep the name I have to change the .com to something else. Is this why it will cost me $24 instead of the $17 for Halcyonsoulcenter.wordpress.com?
3. Will this make the bodyprinciple separate and not a subdomain from Halcyon Soul Center?
Thanks for your wisdom and patience

What’s the address, please?

A domain name plus domain mapping only costs $17. Where did you get the $24 figure?
I don’t understand question 3 at all, but perhaps the answers to the questions above may help. Thanks!

http://bodyprinciple.wordpress.com
I want to change to http://bodyprinciple.com is now a body building place in I believe Oregon.
On top of the dashboard it is saying if I want to change it the cost will be $24.
I have 4 blogs. My first blog is http://halcyonsoulcenter.wordpress.com, all the others WordPress has made them as subdomains even though they have nothing to do with The Halcyon Soul Center.

Your __.wordpress.com address and a custom domain name (ending in .com) are two completely separate things. In other words, one can freely register bodyprinciple.com and use it even though you are using bodyprinciple.wordpress.com (or with any other blogging platform). If you legally registered the brand Body Principle, that’s a completely different story of course.
I still don’t understand why it says $24 in your case. Are you referring to the message that says “Tip: Be the master of your own domain”? Mine says $17 still.
Registering a custom domain name for one of your blogs has no impact on your other __.wordpress.com blogs. You can keep them as __.wordpress.com addresses if you wish. Does that answer your question?

Maybe they are talking about adding the privacy option for the registration? But I thought that was am $ 8– adder not $ 7–.

Yes I am talking about the “Tip” at the top of the page, maybe it costs more to register a .me domain

Dtzima, you are absolutely right… I completely overlooked the price of .me domains.
Domain Registration is a paid upgrade that costs $17.00 per domain ($24.00 for .me domains), per blog, per year.
