Domain names

  If I go with the free option when starting a blog, it gives me the domain example.wordpress.com. Does WordPress own the name example.com for when I want to upgrade my blog?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Hi Haley,

  The “example” part of the domain you’re referring to is a subdomain of WordPress.com, and isn’t related to any domains you’ll add to your site.

  So, choose whatever you want for your “example” subdomain! You won’t have to worry that whatever you choose for your WordPress.com subdomain will prevent you from choosing your actual domain name later on.

  That said, if someone else has already purchased the domain name you want, you will not be able to purchase it and will have to think of an alternative.
