  I already have some domain names, and wish to know if it costs anything to create a new domain name under wordpress. I am reluctant to use an existing domain name on wordpress even though wordpress says it costs £11 to keep it with my existing registrar. That is because I do not know what it will cost when renewal is required, and how long it will last anyway. So, is a newly created domain name under wordpress going to cost me anything, now, or in the future? Does it always have to stay with wordpress?

  A domain name is an address people use to visit your site. It tells the web browser where to look for your site. Just like a street address, a domain is how people visit your website online. And, like having a sign in front of your store, a custom domain name helps give your site a professional look.

  Your WordPress.com site comes with a free address using a WordPress.com subdomain, for example: yourgroovysite.wordpress.com.

  As an alternative to using the free .wordpress.com subdomain, you can instead use a custom domain name (which is not free) for your site, for example: yourgroovydomain.com.

  The annual and two-year WordPress.com plans come with a free domain name credit for one year of registration. When your plan and domain are up for renewal, they will renew independently of each other. The cost for domains can be found here:
